B02班 ポスドク Jutarak Luang-onさん（2022年5月着任）の自己紹介です。

　　初めまして！My name is Jutarak Luang-on from Thailand, and you can call me “Air.” I have joined the Yokohama Institute for Earth Science (YES) as a postdoctoral researcher (May 2022). I am collaborating with Dr. Hideki Kobayashi and Dr. Eko Siswanto on a project called the Digital Biosphere: Integrated Biosphere Science for Mitigating Global Environmental Change in the Environmental Geochemical Cycle Research Group, Earth Surface System Research Center (ESS), specifically the sub-project of High-resolution Observation of Ecosystem Structure, Function, and Diversity based on Remote-Sensing Technology.

　　I first came to Japan in 2014 to study Japanese in Nagano. Afterward, I relocated to Nagoya (2015) for my master’s and Ph.D. degrees at Nagoya University in the Satellite Biological Oceanography laboratory under Professor Joji Ishizaka. During my studies, I have developed ocean color algorithms for satellite observations to study surface phytoplankton variability and red tides under the influence of Asian monsoons and global climate change, particularly in eutrophic coastal waters in the upper Gulf of Thailand (uGoT). With the support of Japanese research funds, I was able to conduct field observations during red tide outbreaks in the uGoT from 2017 to 2019 and was successful in developing an algorithm to detect the varieties of uGoT red tides caused by different phytoplankton groups based on the newly collected dataset.

　　At JAMSTEC, I intend to continue working on developing ocean color algorithms to detect and monitor red tides, hoping to contribute to reducing their impacts. I plan to broaden the research region to include the coastal waters of Japan and Southeast Asia and create a diverse algorithm that can be applied to existing and upcoming satellite observations.

　　Before working here, I had a good impression of the JAMSTEC while attending the Korean-Japan/Asian Workshop on Ocean Color held at YES in 2015 and 2018, as well as participating in ocean color observations in the western Pacific Ocean with the Japan Ocean Optics team on Hakuho-maru (KH-17-5) and Shinsei-maru (KS-18-6). Thank you for allowing me to work in your team and for your encouraging words and support, which eased my anxieties about my first overseas employment. I love カラオケ and 焼肉 is my favorite.
